In August, Britain's Advertising Standards Authority pulled an iPhone advertisement because the commercial said, "All the parts of the internet are on the iPhone." The lack of Flash and Java support on iPhone were enough for the ad to be deemed misleading. Apple has plenty of customer complaints to address about the iPhone the last thing it needs is to add Adobe and Flash to the pile. Flash apps could hurt battery life, suck up the graphics-processing unit's power, use an inordinate amount of memory, or potentially introduce security risks. But even if there is a "Flash Lite" for iPhone, that just reinforces the point that the handset's owners still will not have a true Flash experience.Īnd aside from taking software control away from Apple, Flash would introduce a slew of other potential headaches as well. If Apple introduced Flash to iPhone, it's possible Nullriver could code a Flash version of NetShare, repeating that violation, Dann said.ĭann added that the only way Flash could ever appear on the iPhone is if Adobe offered an extremely stripped-down version of the software. Apple eventually banned Nullriver's application NetShare because it violated AT&T Terms of Service agreement by turning the iPhone into a wireless modem for tethering. In so doing, Flash would divert business from the App Store, as well as enable publishers to distribute music, videos and movies that could compete with the iTunes Store.Īdam Dann, CEO of Nullriver, agrees that Flash would take away some of Apple's control. That means Flash would open a new door for application developers to get their software onto the iPhone: Just code them in Flash and put them on a web page. Flash has evolved from being a mere animation player into a multimedia platform capable of running applications of its own. But the speculators may be waiting in vain, based on Apple's TOS and the company's history of tightly controlling applications for its smartphone platform.Īllowing Flash - which is a development platform of its own - would just be too dangerous for Apple, a company that enjoys exerting total dominance over its hardware and the software that runs on it. Adobe's recent announcement that it is working on a version of Flash for Windows Mobile has prompted speculation that an iPhone version might be coming soon. According to Adobe, 98 percent of desktop computers currently support Flash, which has led to its widespread use by web developers. Flash is Adobe's highly popular platform for displaying interactive graphics, animations and multimedia within a browser. And in that moment, Little Hoppa was born,” added Sofie. Rice added that creating and producing a limited edition artists’ book can be extremely labor intensive. “And in my 40s, I became an administrator on campus to support my chosen work.” “After graduating, I taught seminars in book arts out of my studio for 14 years as a lecturer,” said Rice. She received her degree in 1978 from UC Santa Cruz as an independent major in Fine Art Printing. And during this process manually create vertical control points on vertical edges to straighten the panorama. Then you can go back and optimize everything and recheck for outliers. Then check the control points and remove the outliers. If there are enough wrong control points, the best fit distortion field may look like a jacked up bow tie or worse.Ī good procedure is to automatically set your field of view and optimize first only abc unless its a 360 image then fov is ok. If there are control points which are plain wrong, then these will be factored in. The distortion field is created by the distortion values, field of view and sensor offset. The control points across the images are used to caculate the distortion field which best fits the control points. To calculate it exactly, you have to optimize it with images that cover 360 degrees. This is used to find the crop value and then the field of view can be calculated roughly. In this case let it be set by the exif, which has the lens and camera model. What usually happens, is that one optimizes the field of view and it strays too far from reality. Field of view is how much angle of view was captured by the lens. D and e are horizontal and vertical offsets from the physical lens distortion over the sensor or captured image. A b c are distortion values for the center middle and edge of the lens. Stitching with hugin or ptgui which is the industry standard requires that you understand fairly well the process. If people here get Hugin to make good fits (by Hugin's own standards) I'd love to hear how they do it. Have any of you encountered the issues I mention? I keep finding features I didn't know about in Hugin, so maybe I just don't have an intelligent workflow. I really like FOSS, so I'd much prefer to use Hugin as much as I can. I use a panoramic head so parallax shouldn't be a big issue. Also, in cases where the panorama looks good, I've never been able to get Hugin to tell me I have anything better than a "bad fit" (usually it's "very bad fit"), while Autopano always says my fit has a great RMS score. I often find Hugin creating bad control points, resulting in images being stretched far beyond where their supposed to go. It seems Hugin is slower at detection as well, because it tries to match all the pictures with each other, when most of them have no overlap with each other. From what I've read they both use the same set of algorithms to detect control points, so I wonder if I'm doing something wrong. I noticed that the automatic detection in Autopano seems to work better than Hugin, but I don't really understand why. After making a bunch of them I decided to look into other (non-free) software and gave Autopano Giga a try. Hello everyone, I've recently gotten into photography and have been having a lot of fun making 360° panoramas with Hugin. While Muren collaborated with Allen on visual-effects concepts, McGee set to work on a script. For a young man in love with monsters, the choice was easy. Muren approached his family for financial help and was presented with an option: use the money his grandfather had saved for him to supplement his college tuition. In early 1965, the kids decided to take the amazing, colossal leap into feature filmmaking. The group was open and helpful to anyone who wanted to share their work.” “We entered into detailed discussions regarding aesthetics and technique, without mean-spirited criticism. “Everyone would applaud an effort to make something,” remembers Jim Duron, another young buff drawn to the group. The boys also chewed over their own film experiments. Screenings were often held in McGee’s home, with a 16mm projector and rented movies. They were particularly fascinated with stop-motion fantasies like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad and King Kong, in which articulated puppets are animated one frame at a time and combined with live-action footage. Soon the trio were gathering to watch and discuss such shared favorites as The Thing from Another World (1951), Bride of the Monster (1955), and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956). “David Allen wants to correspond with you.” McGee, who already knew Muren, was the first to reply. “Kalling all you King Kong lovers!” the ad exclaimed. McGee sometimes wrote for FM (including a career retrospective for Harryhausen’s birthday), and in January 1962, Ackerman featured a story on Muren’s collection of monster-movie memorabilia called “Horrors of the Muren Museum.” But it was a personal ad in the May 1962 issue, attributed to aspiring stop-motion animator David Allen (McGee says it was actually written by a friend on Allen’s behalf), that would bring these three fans together for the first time. Ackerman’s influential magazine, published by James Warren, was a photo-filled, kid-friendly celebration of creature features that ran articles on amateur filmmaking and fostered interaction with, and between, its young readers. They even had their own Cahiers du cinéma, in the form of a ghoulish gazette, edited by Forrest J Ackerman, called Famous Monsters of Filmland (known as FM by aficionados). Arnold Gillespie ( The Wizard of Oz, 1939). Instead of worshipping at the altar of Nicholas Ray or Jean Renoir, however, these kids found nirvana in visual-effects gurus like Willis O’Brien ( King Kong, 1933), Ray Harryhausen ( The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, 1958), and A. And in suburban Los Angeles, just a few miles from the ruins of Hollywood, three kids decided to make a monster movie.Īll under the age of twenty-one, Dennis Muren, Mark McGee, and David Allen were as rabid in their cinephilia as Godard and his band of Cinémathèque outsiders. Closer to the commercial industry, iconoclasts Roger Corman and John Cassavetes were sidestepping a dying studio system that had fallen out of touch with a rapidly changing culture. High in the mountains of Colorado, film poet Stan Brakhage completed his 16mm epic The Art of Vision, a handmade declaration of cinematic independence and amateur aesthetics. In France, Jean-Luc Godard was leading a new wave of critics-turned-directors, bent on the transformation of traditional production theories. Farino, Emmy Award–winning visual-effects supervisor for Children of Dune (2003) and editor of the 1970s fanzine FXRH: Special Effects by Ray Harryhausen, 2004īy 1965, the cinema had edged toward the brink of worldwide revolution. We looked at it and thought, ‘Hey, maybe we can do that!’”-Ernest D. But they might as well have been made on the moon, with their exotic locations and relatively big budgets. You have to escape controlled means of distribution and find new ways to have your film seen.”-Jean-Luc Godard, 1968 The problem is getting it shown after you’ve made it. I mean, if you don’t have enough money to do it in 35mm, you do it in 16. “It’s very easy to get a film produced these days. And I believe that the so-called commercial, or ritual, cinema must inevitably take its cue from the films of amateurs rather than, as is too often the case these days, the other way around.”-Stan Brakhage, “In Defense of the Amateur,” 1971 I believe that any art of the cinema must inevitably rise from the amateur, ‘home movie’–making medium. "The word amateur-in the Latin-means ‘lover.’ A work of art is made for the most personal of reasons-as an expression of love. The abrasion in the dryer will ruin your clothes. “I treat the stain and then I wash.”ĭryer versus hang-drying: “Hang dry everything. … You’d be surprised how much less water you use and how much less energy.” Express on warm is so much better for your clothes than cold with a long cycle. If you bring up the water temperature you can shorten the cycle. The thing that is scariest about the washing machine isn’t the water, it’s the abrasion. Warm is warm enough to activate the detergent, but it allows you to speed up the process. Patric Richardson is popular for his clothing camps and his book that he has. Water temperature: “Never use cold, even on silk or wool. The Laundry Guys star Patric Richardson is a famous character who gives. If you want to wash it by hand that’s fine, but I recommend putting it in a mesh laundry/lingerie bag from the dollar store and throwing it in the washer on warm water.” (Snail’s teeth from the European limpet snails are the strongest natural material in the world, he reveals.) It’s very durable, that’s why they make parachutes from it. “Silk is the second strongest fabric known to man. Same with sheep farmers will shear them and wash the wool, comb it. Silk and wool: “Cashmere goats stand on mountainsides in the snow and the rain. When asked, Richardson is happy to debunk some of the most popular laundry myths. This led to weekly “laundry camps”- part social gatherings, part wash-day tips - or as he calls them: an evening of “clean clothes and dirty martinis.” His customer base became increasingly focused on how best to care for their purchases - including the dreaded “dry clean only” ones - as well as their existing closet inventory. Spilled some mustard from that Chicago-style hot dog on your jacket? Spray it with a mixture of vinegar and water, soak it in some oxygen bleach mixture (one tablespoon of oxygen bleach with quart of warm water) until you see it “lifting” and throw it in the wash. Stain from a Chicago deep-dish pizza sauce staring back at you from that T-shirt? Use a mixture of vinegar and water and rub it a bit to get out the oil/grease in the sauce, he says, followed a scrubbing with soap (“never use dish soap!”) and water and the brush to get out the tomato. Laundry guru Patric Richardson offers up these tips for Windy City stains. f.set (objectOfTheClass, new ConcurrentHashMap<> ()) You can't set any value in null Object If tried then it will result in NullPointerException. In object oriented programming languages such as Java, reflection allows inspection of classes, interfaces, fields and methods at run-time without knowing the. Also provides the possibility to instantiate new objects, invoke methods and get/set field values. Two issues you may be having issues with - the field might not be accessible normally (private), and it's not in the class you are looking at, but somewhere up the hierarchy. Fieldset (Object object, Object value) sets the field represented by this Field object on the specified object argument to the specified new value. Reflection allows programmatic access to information about the fields, methods and constructors of loaded classes, and the use of reflected fields, methods, and constructors to operate on their underlying counterparts, within security restrictions. |
